Major Flooding Affects Namoi Valley

Gunnedah
Major flooding has been occuring on the Namoi River peaked at 8.03 metres around 3am Saturday morning causing major flooding. The river level at Gunnedah is now slowly falling.Water is currently over the Gunnedah to Kelvin Road and has closed at Cohens Bridge and the “pig hole”. Low-lying areas in the Kelvin, Bluevale, Wean and Orange Grove Road areas may experience flooding of the roads and farmlands in that area may be inundated.Major flooding has occurred, particularly to rural properties on the North side of Namoi River that are isolated. The water is over the northern approach to Ballyreagan Bridge closing the Bluevale Road, this will mean there is no vehicle access to the Gunnedah local airport. Water is has entered the yards of some Chandos Street properties. The Talibah Park is inundated and houses on Talibah Flat are surrounded by water. Water is over the road on the Kamilaroi Highway at Barlows Corner, Boggabri closing the road. Water is now around homes in Maitland Street and Warrumbungle and under houses in Bloomfield Street.Water surrounds houses on Maitland Street and Little Conadilly St. Water over the road at the intersection of Bloomfield and Rosemary Streets is impeding access to businesses. This morning a person was rescued from their vehicle in Gunnedah on a flooded bridge.
Boggabri The Namoi River at Boggabri is predicted to peak near 7.8 metres around 3am Sunday (05/02/2012) At this height the Kamilaroi Highway at Barlows corner is closed. There is inundation of low lying rural land and roads in the area. The Iron Bridge on the Boggabri-Manilla is closed. Water will be over the road at Boston St Bridge.
Narrabri The Namoi River is slowly falling from its current level of 5.9 metres with minor flooding. Waters in the Big Sky Caravan Park are receding, and the Wee Waa Road and Violet Street Bridge along with other local roads remain closed.
Wee Waa. The Namoi River is near at 7.0 metres with major flooding until the middle of next week. All access roads to Wee Waa have been affected by floodwater and impassable, Wee Waa is isolated. Wee Waa airport is also isolated and the Wee Waa to Narrabri Rd has been closed at Glencoe causeway.
Bugilbone / Goangra.
The Namoi River is predicted to reach 6.7 metres around Monday (06/02/2012) at Bugilbone and predicted to reach 8.5 metres at Goangra around Saturday (11/02/2012) with major flooding.This flooding will result in the closure of a number of local roads and may result in the isolation of a number of rural properties in the Bugilbone and Goangra areas. Water may be over the Goangra Bridge and the Castlereagh Hwy, the Pilliga to Walgett Road and the Walgett to Goangra Road may be closed.
