A slow-moving high pressure system centred over the southern Tasman Sea is directing a moist easterly airstream across New South Wales, while an upper-level trough remains over the state's north. A weak low pressure trough extends from the Northern Territory into western districts. A second trough situated off the northern New South Wales and southern Queensland coast, is forecast to weaken somewhat on Wednesday, however it is likely to intensify again later in the week. This weak cold front is will pass to the south during Wednesday and Thursday, with a more significant front likely later on the weekend. Until this time conditions are expected to remain showery in most eastern and northern districts of New South Wales, with more widespread rain about the northern coastal districts

NSW SES response:

There have been over 80 requests for assistance received by the NSW SES since 4.30pm on Monday afternoon. The majority of these requests has been for flood threatening, trees down and leaking roofs.

Darkwood is isolated as well as some rural property owners, and Waterfall Way is closed between the Pacific Highway and Bellingen. Further road information can be obtained from the RTA or local councils.

The NSW SES is deploying Swiftwater rescue Technicians to areas of concern and the local units remain ready to respond to requests for assistance from the area.

There have been three flood rescues on the North Coast, and we are urging motorists to take care when travelling and to drive to the conditions of the day and never enter floodwater.
