All Clear for residents of North Moree (Gwydir Highway)

Authorised By:     James McTavish, Incident Controller

After major flooding over the period 30th January 2012 – 03rd February 2012, flood waters have started to recede.

An all clear for some areas of North Moree has now been given to homes and businesses bounded by Albert Street, Boundary Street, Gwydir Highway and Frome Street and Bridge Road between Boggabilla and Frome Street. Residents and businesses in these areas are free to return.

All other streets within North Moree still remain under the evacuation order until further notice. The SES is conducting regular reviews of these areas and will advise all residents when it is safe for them to return.

Residents with over-floor flooding should contact Moree Plains Shire Council for a safety inspection prior to reoccupying their property. Public health inspections will continue in coming days for residences that had water in their property but did not suffer over-floor inundation.

North West Region SES reminds residents not to walk, ride or drive through floodwaters – this is the main cause of death and injury during floods.

Residents are advised not to enter streets that are closed in North Moree.
