Natural disaster declarations extended to Bourke and Tamworth

Minister for Police and Emergency Services Michael Gallacher has today extended a Natural Disaster Declaration to the Local Government Areas of Bourke and Tamworth.The declarations follow widespread flooding in Northern NSW which has caused damage to major infrastructure, homes and businesses.This Declaration makes a number of supportive schemes available to assist with the cost of restoration and recovery under the Commonwealth Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements and the NSW Disaster Assistance Arrangements."These measures will help families, business owners and primary producers to restore any damage caused by the floods and ease some of the associated burden,” Minister Gallacher said.The Local Government Areas of Walgett, Brewarrina, Liverpool Plains, Gloucester, Upper Hunter, Ballina, Gunnedah, Moree Shire, Greater Taree, Gwydir, Narrabri, Tenterfield, Bellingen, Byron, Lismore, Kyogle, Richmond Valley, Clarence Valley, Coffs Harbour, Inverell, Nambucca, Kempsey and Tweed Shire Council have already been declared Natural Disasters."The floods we are seeing in these areas have caused much damage and devastation to the region but it is heartening to see community members come together. I applaud them for their resilience and optimism,” Minister Gallacher said."I also want to thank the Emergency Service personnel who have worked and continue to work tirelessly, assisting residents and business owners in the aftermath."We will continue to monitor the situation across Northern NSW and offer our support to local communities,” Minister Gallacher concluded.Anyone needing help from the SES should contact their local unit on 132 500.
