The 'combat' agency for New South Wales for bushfires is the Rural Fire Service. During severe or protracted fire events the SES is often called upon to provide assistance. This assistance may include using chainsaws to remove dangerous fire damaged trees and branches, doorknocking of residents and businesses in fire threatened areas, traffic management and the provision of materials, drinks and/or food to firefighters.
Similarly, during severe or protracted storm and flood events the Rural Fire Service also provides assistance to the SES.
