Final Flood Update

28 October 2009, 10:39am

The SES is wrapping up its response to flooding on the New South Wales Mid-North Coast.

The low pressure system and deep trough over north eastern NSW that resulted in torrential rain, severe storms and flooding has weakened overnight, with rainfall
easing. Isolated showers are forecast today in northern and central districts of the State, becoming scattered on the Mid North Coast and Upper Western districts.

The Bellinger River at Thora has fallen below minor flooding level (3 metres) however, further rainfall is possible over the next 6 to 12 hours which could produce
some further river rises. The situation is being closely monitored. On the Kalang River near Bellingen floodwaters have fallen below Moodys Bridge however the roadway requires clearing by the local council due to flood debris. The Kalang School Bus will not run until this bridge is cleared.

The Orara River at the Glenreagh Bridge has fallen below minor flood level of 4 metres. The flood peak is now approaching Coutts Crossing causing minor flooding. Roads around the Glenreagh area and downstream are affected by flooding resulting in the closure of Dundoon Creek, MacPhersons Crossing and 15 Mile Bridge. Bluff Bridge and Poley Bridge are now open. Two teams are currently undertaking reconnaissance in the Coutts Crossing area.

The Nambucca River at Macksville peaked just below its minor flood level of 1.7 metres on Tuesday evening. At Bowraville the river has just fallen below its minor flood level of 5.5 metres. The SES Nambucca Unit is this morning undertaking a reconnaissance of the local roads, with many closed due to flooding. These include Lavertys Bridge, Lanes Bridge and Brouggys Bridge. Out of Area Assistance Teams from Kempsey and Coffs Harbour have now returned to their Units.

For emergency help in floods and storms call the SES on 132 500. In a life threatening emergency call 000 (triple zero) immediatey.
