Flood Warnings for Orara, Bellinger and Nambucca Rivers

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued flood warnings for minor to moderate flooding on the Orara, Bellinger and Nambucca Rivers.

 

Torrential rain caused by a deep low pressure trough over northern New South Wales has resulted in flooding on the Orara, Bellinger and Nambucca Rivers.

Rainfall totals in the 17 hours to 5am have included 370mm at Crystal Creek near Bellingen, 362 at Bowraville, 146mm at Coffs Harbour and 183mm at Repentance near Lismore.

Minor flooding is expected at Thora around 6am Tuesday. Low level bridges in the upper Bellinger Valley may be affected  by flooding todayand residents ikn this area should ensure they are prepared for possible isolation. Lavenders Bridge is closed between Bellingen and North Bellingen. River levels in Bellingen are falling as rain eases.

On the Nambucca River Lanes Bridge in Bowraville is closed with moderate flooding around Bowraville. At Macksville some properties in the north of the town may have under floor flooding if the minor flood level is reached around 9am this morning.

On the Orara River minor flooding is expected in Glenreagh this evening.

The SES warns that you do not drive, ride or walk through flood waters as water can be deeper or faster flowing than you think and contain hidden snags and debris. Do not go sight-seeing and follow the instructions of the emergency services.

Severe storms with flash flooding, damaging winds and large hail are likely to impact the north west of the state during today, with flash flooding from storms on the North and Mid-North coasts.
