The RCR workshop weekend will test their skills and abilities to work within multi agency Teams, in a number of simulated Road-crash Rescue situations involving the extrication of trapped casualties.
The RCR Workshop weekend also provides an opportunity for further skills development of SES volunteers and emergency services agencies to further enhance responses to a number of situations they may be confronted with on our roads.
Another key purpose of this weekend is to allow RCR teams to practice skills gained on realistic complex scenarios within a controlled environment, adapting the application of skills with new techniques to build and continually develop RCR inter -agency operability. The weekend will also allow opportunities for RCR networking within agencies and the presentation of new equipment and new technologies specific to the areas of road crash rescue.
To stage the RCR inter-operability weekend a number of life-threatening scenarios have been created within the Minnamurra Waste Depot –Kiama, to test RCR teams. The aim at each scenario is to scrutinise operational skills and techniques, involving teamwork and problem solving abilities of inter-agency teams when confronted with an RCR emergency situation.
The SES Illawarra South Coast Region Controller, Peter Higgins said today “The support of the Minnamurra Waste Depot should be congratulated, their support to the SES has been fantastic by allowing us access to these areas and equipment, which by their nature and design, provide us with scenarios with such a high degree of realism and further offer enhanced Road-crash Rescue scenarios.”
He went on to say “If we consider the many and various types of emergencies that are faced by the community, and the varied roles SES volunteers and Emergency Services agencies undertake to help support our communities, then the staging of inter-operability workshops of this type can only further enhance the professionalism and dedication presented by SES volunteers and Emergency Services..”
Under the watchful eyes of a RCR stand managers teams will be required to appraise each of the six simulated scenarios and demonstrate, within a specified time, their proficiency in a range of skills including site safety assessments, teamwork, leadership, stabilisation, rescue and extrication techniques, including casualty handling to provide a positive learning outcome from all scenarios.
Each of the stands will commence simultaneously and run for sixty minutes including team leader debriefs and the Air Ambulance Helicopter will provide a presentation to all teams.
