Minor Flood Warning for the Brunswick River

22 June 2009, 8:23pm

An average of 90 millimetres of rain has fallen during the past 24 hours to 4.00pm today in the Brunswick River area.

Further heavy rain is forecast and this continuing rain is expected to cause the river to rise at Billinudgel.

This will cause Marshalls Creek to reach the Minor Flood level of 2.5m at 4am tomorrow morning (23.06.09) at Billinudgel. Effected areas will include:

·     Billinudgel township

·         The Pocket and Middle Pocket

·         Upper Main ArmThese areas will have flood waters over the roads and minor flooding of properties.

The Billinudgel township may possibly be effected by road closures due to flooding.

The SES advises that people camping, caravanning and engaging in activities near rivers and streams should listen to the radio for updates and advices, camp well away from watercourses and streams and be particularly aware that roads leading away from unestablished camp sites could be affected before camping areas.

If you need emergency assistance as a result of flooding, contact your local State Emergency Service Unit by calling 132 500.

The SES is monitoring the situation. Information on the weather can be obtained from the Bureau of Meteorology web site at www.bom.gov.au.
