Minor Flooding Again Affects Mid-North Coast

Minor flooding is occuring on the Orara and Bellinger Rivers this morning.

 

Following heavy rain over the weekend, rises are occuring this morning in both the Orara and the Bellinger Rivers on the New South Wales Mid-North Coast.

Bellinger River

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, an average of 60 millimetres of rain has fallen over the Bellinger River catchment over the last 24 hours with higher totals being recorded in the upper reaches of the Never Never Creek. Rainfall intensities have increased in the Bellinger catchment over the three hours to 7am this morningwhich is expected to cause further river rises. Additional moderate rainfall is expected over the next 12 hours.

At Thora with forecast rainfall the Bellinger River is expected to rise to around 4.0 metres late Monday with minor flooding. At Bellingen with forecast rain the Bellinger River is expected to exceed the minor flood level of 3.7 metres between midday and 3pm today, and rising to 4.0 metres later today with minor flooding.

Orara River

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, an average of 100 millimetres of rain has fallen on the Orara River catchment over the last 24 hours to 6 am Monday morning. Additional moderate falls are possible over the next 12 hours which could produce further river rises at Glenreagh. 

At Glenreagh Bridge with current rainfall the Orara River is expected to reach 6.5 metres between midday and
3pm.  Whilst the Glenreagh automatic gauge is expected to reach 8.5 metres between midday and 3pm this afternoon.

North Coast
The SES is also monitoring river conditions this morning on the far north coast of New South Wales, particularly on the Wilsons and Brunswick River catchments. 
The SES has received reports of flash flooding in parts of the Brunswick Valley,  and several causeways in the Upper Main Arm area have water over them.  
The Upper Main Arm School has been closed for today and lower car parks in the Lismore CBD will be closed and will have water entering the car park.
