If you live close to a river or water course or even in a low-lying area, you may be at risk from floods even if you have not experienced flooding.

Floods can be extremely dangerous and cause an average of $128 million worth of damage in NSW annually (Department of Infrastructure and Transport (formerly Department of Transport and Regional Services) - Report 103 , Economic Costs of Natural Disasters in Australia, 2001).

It is important to be aware of and prepared for floods where you live, where you have property or animals and where you work.

Flood Planning

The NSW State Flood Plan outlines arrangements for responding to floods in NSW.

Local Flood Plans (LFP) are also developed for catchment areas. LFPs may be found in libraries and by contacting your Local Council.

Visit the Flood Planning pages on this site for more information. In this area you can view current endorsed LFPs as well as view current plans for public comment .
